Kettlebell Fitness
Kettlebells are used by many individuals to improve overall fitness. A kettlebell fitness program contains many workouts combined into one. This fitness program works various aspects of a person's body which results in a total body workout. With kettlebell fitness, there is no need to complete different types of workouts. Kettlebell movements improve strength, endurance, flexibility, and more.
What is a kettlebell
A kettlebell is a cast iron weight that resembles a cannonball with a handle. Kettlebells come in various weights which range from 1.8 kilograms to 16 kilograms. The kettlebells are used in various motions which work to improve strength and endurance.
The kettlebell is different than a traditional dumbbell because the centre of mass goes beyond the handle. This allows the kettlebell to be used effectively in motions unlike those used with traditional weights.
Kettlebell Movements
A kettlebell fitness program combines a variety of different movements. These basic movements are:
- The swing snatch
- Clean and press
- Turkish get up
- Windmills
- The swing single hand
- The swing double hand
- Rows
- Squats
- Lunges
A basic kettlebell workout includes completing various types of these movements using an appropriate weighted kettlebell. Beginner kettlebell users may start a workout using a lower weighted kettlebell for various reasons. In order for kettlebell workouts to be successful, it is important that all movements be completed accurately. When learning these movements, it may be wise to begin with lighter kettlebells until one masters the execution of each movement. In no time at all, kettlebell users may advance to heavier kettlebells to increase one's workout.
Kettlebell Circuit
As one becomes more advanced in kettlebell fitness, one may choose to increase the intensity of a workout.
To accomplish this goal, a kettlebell circuit may be created. A kettlebell circuit is a round of different kettlebell movements performed one after another.
The circuit is a combination of the basic kettlebell movements designed to focus on particular fitness goals. A circuit can be created to focus on fat burning, strength, flexibility, endurance, aerobic, and other areas. An example of a fat burning kettlebell circuit is:
- Kettlebell snatches – 5 reps per arm
- Kettlebell Squats – 10 reps
- Kettlebell Clean and Press – 5 reps per arm
- Kettlebell One Armed Rows – 10 reps per arm
- Kettlebell Lunges – 5 reps per leg
- Kettlebell Two Handed Swings – 20 reps
Kettlebell Results
Kettlebell workouts show strong and fast results. When kettlebell workouts are completed accurately, individuals can see results in half the time of other workouts. It is this reason why many are beginning a kettlebell workout. With kettlebells, there is no need to visit the gym 5 or 6 days a week. Instead, a kettlebell workout can be completed 3 times a week and expect even better results.
